Alternative Heating Methods

"Warmth"

Warmth starts in a barrel

Its ingredients carefully measured
Combined in just the right way
At just the right time
To create the perfect blend

The ingredients of warmth take their time
They mingle and flirt
One with another
And another
And another
Combining and separating
Breaking down and recreating
Timing is everything

Then warmth moves
From a barrel
To a bottle
To a glass
To a gullet

Flushing the nose and cheeks
With a rosy glow
Making the eyes shine
With warm and bleary light

An Early Comeback!

Sadly, I abandoned NaNoWriMo not long after I started it in favor of developing a character that fell into my lap.  Stay tuned for more on that front as things develop further.  In the meantime, I was able to overcome my writers block (thank goodness), and I have some poems to share with you!  I won't overwhelm you, instead I'll dole them out at an appropriate pace.

The first was inspired by a scene from a Philadelphia street.

"Staircases"

Racing, racing,
always faster
Up these steps
Down those steps
Narrow and steep
Dark and chilled
Always moving
Always going

Light this fire
Make the bed
Lay out the clothes
Bring in the flowers
Bake the bread
Dust the mantle
Announce the visitor

Keep moving
Always going
Constant motion
To ensure perfection

To what end?
For whose benefit?
With what impact?
Why??

Official Hiatus

I'm officially going on hiatus for the month of November.  My writer friends are likely to understand why immediately, and you can go ahead and stop reading now.  You get it.

For my non-writers: November is National Novel Writing Month, and I'm participating in the 50,000 word challenge to write my first novel, daunting as it is.  I don't expect perfection the first time around.  Heck, I don't even know if the first one will be any good at all, but I figure that once I get one under my belt, the size won't be so daunting and I can really concentrate on writing something fabulous.  I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

If you're interested in learning more about this life-consuming month, visit http://nanowrimo.org and check it out.  If you're feeling brave, sign up yourself!
